If only the old clichés were true, handicapping football would be a piece of cake. You know, "Winning begins with defense" or "Games are won at the point of attack". If this were true, Buddy Ryan's old Eagle teams with Hall-of-Famers and Pro Bowlers galore would have won a few Super Bowls. They never won a playoff game.

When you consider that the line is affected much more by the quality of skilled position players than anything else, if the old clichés were true, defensive dogs would hit about 90%.

When was the last time a game was taken off of the board or circled solely due to the injury of a great defensive player? The answer is probably the same as the last time a quarterback's status was unknown and the game was on the board and not circled in every sports book.

One of the biggest reasons that so many gamblers, not to mention football fans have this misconception is that they do not draw a distinction between a great offense and a high powered one.

Great offenses are not the ones that can consistently beat a team with a 60-yard bomb, but teams that can over and over again get 15-20 play seven-minute scoring drives.

Also, there is no such thing as depth these days, so a few key injuries to skilled position players can literally mean the difference between worst and first.

Great offenses keep defenses off of the field. The greatest team of all time was the 1972 Miami Dolphins, who not-so-coincidently had the greatest ball control team ever.

They gained an average of 5.6 yards per play. Their fourth leading rusher averaged 5.3 yards per carry. The reason their "No Name Defense" was so successful was because you don't give up many points or much yardage when you are standing on the sidelines watching your offense meticulously move those yard markers.

Great offenses are not measured by points scored. There are no official statistics, but much like the complicated quarterback ratings, a more accurate formula for measuring a successful offense would take strongly into account points per possession and average length of each possession.

There is a colossal difference average points per game and average points per possession. Likewise, there is a monster divergence between time of possession and length of each possession.

The best, if not the only way to slow down the Indianapolis Colts when all their pieces are healthy is to take them out of a rhythm. If Peyton Manning is watching seven minute drives by his opponent from the sidelines, not only can he not develop a groove, but he will not throw too many touchdown passes from the sidelines.

The best defense is not just a great offense; it is a great ball control offense. But yes, long drives punctuated by scores are the best defense because it is a lot easier to play defense with a big lead when the other team's options are limited.

When of the biggest gifts when it comes to NFL totals is when it comes to a stud ball control offensive player is hurt, most people falsely assume that their games become lower scoring. False. Often teams have to compensate by opening it up more. So often a star running back or tight end goes down, yet a team's points per game average goes up after they injury. They still have the aptitude to score, but not an ability to keep their suspect defense off of the field.

Not to mention, we all saw clearly that the Ravens missed chain-moving Jamal Lewis and that the Patriots "defense" suddenly improved when Tom Brady looked like the greatest Cinderella story since Kurt Warner.

This is not to mention that the Ravens became the ultimate aberration of winning a championship with a mediocre offense with a defense that some say was the best ever.

Plus, let's face it, Brian Billick one of the game's top offense minds, proved you can get blood from a stone by somehow making (gulp) Trent Dilfer a mistake-free quarterback.

All things considered, the Ravens Super Bowl Champs were much better defensively than offensively, but Jamal Lewis' smash-mouth, ball control is exactly the type of running back that keeps defenses where they perform best: the sidelines.

Looking for great defensive stats then get a great ball control offense. But the most important caveat is that that offense has to stay healthy. The Cowboys of the early 90's and the Broncos of the late 90's are perfect examples. The difference between a team among the bottom statistically on defense and at the top is a great quarterback, running back and receivers/tight ends. Both the aforesaid teams more than met that.

Want another undefeated Super Bowl team like the 1972 Dolphins? Two thousand yard rushers (in a 14-game schedule) and someone the caliber of Jim Kiick as a third option would do the trick. Add two parts much better than average QB's like Bob Greise and Earl Morrall. Throw in nice receiving corps and I give you another No Name Defense with any starting unit in the NFL.

But what does this mean in handicapping? Again, as alluded to, convoluted logic so often applies to totals when a key offensive player is hurt. In many cases, it increases the likelihood of points being scored contrary to popular belief.

The same is true on the other side of the ball. If a run-stopping middle linebacker is hurt, it often will mean that the other team will run more. It may mean that they will have more success on offense but not necessarily score more points. It could mean more ball control, thus fewer total possessions.

Good handicappers must evaluate any and all injuries in their totality. Bookmakers make a fortune because suckers assume that if a key offensive player is hurt, it is likely to mean fewer points or if a key defensive player is out, it means more points.

The sportsbook oddsmakers know and adjust accordingly. Joe Q Public adjusts incorrectly. But someone has to subsidize the winnings of pro bettors.

"Ada rasa bangganya juga bisa main film bareng artis senior. Apalagi adegannya, ya gitu deh," kata Ferly sedikit tersipu malu.

Jika memang saat syuting tersebut belum muncul benih asmara antara Andi dan Ferly, besar kemungkinan mereka terlibat cinta lokasi (cinlok). Pasalnya, setelah syuting, hubungan keduanya berlanjut menjadi sejoli yang kasmaran.

"Ini sebenarnya film sudah lama. Saya kenal Ferly juga sudah lama, meski hanya say hi saja. Kebetulan kita ketemu di film ini. Mungkin terlalu terbawa peran dan mendalami karakter, jadi terbawa suasana. Terserah mau dibilang cinlok atau apa," sahut Aya.

Demi melakukan adegan intim dengan Ferly, Aya mengaku berusaha keras membangun chemistry. Aya pun mulai melakukan pendekatan dengan banyak mengobrol dengan Ferly.

"Adegan love scene itu kan harus ada chemistry-nya. Itu bisa dilihat dari kontak mata. Jadi saya enggak mau bohong, akting itu enggak boleh bohong. Even though skate design and technology have changed dramatically over the past few years, the fundamentals of how a skate needs to fit to be comfortable and perform have not.

Basically, there are three issues to consider when purchasing skates. First and foremost, is the obvious issue of purchasing a pair of skates that are comfortable. Second to comfort, is that your skates must fit correctly to perform ...the correct size (length), and width. (Not unlike the 'right' golf club) The third consideration to the fit of the skates, but as important, is choosing the correct make and model of product. Far too often skaters focus on buying the same skates that they have seen their skating idol wearing or they look only to the most expensive skates, because obviously (to them) they are the best.

Clearly, what we know is... it doesn't matter how much you pay for your skates or what famous skater is wearing the product, if the skates you purchase don't fit properly your skating performace can be adversly affected.Read on for some insights in how to gain the competitive advantage by being certain your skates fit.

The fundamentals of how skates should fit

A skate does not fit the same as a shoe.

A hockey skate...in all cases will fit 1 to 1 ½ sizes smaller than your shoe

½ size growing room is all that is necassary and will generally get a growing foot through one full season of hockey

Allowing more growing room than ½ size can lead to blisters, premature breakdown of the skate and reduced performance of the skate for the skater. Widths in skates are not the same as in a shoe...for example A "EE" width in a shoe is similar to a "D" width

Don't just focus on one make and model!

Different models of skates are built to accommodate different levels of skater ability and physical size, different shapes of feet, and different price points. These are key points when considering what skates to buy. It is important to be honest about the level of skating that you or your skater is at. A skate that is too stiff is the one of the biggest contributors to poor skating performance.

Skate manufacturers skates all fit differently.

It's possible that although you think you would like to try Bauer skates, the skate may not work the best for you because the "last" (shape of the boot) is not appropriate for the shape of your foot. It is important to try on more than one manufacturer skate if you are uncertain. Comparison and a great skate technician is ultimately the best way to help make the correct decision for you.

Skates are meant to fit when they are laced up!

The number one reason skaters end up in skates that are too big is that they don't lace the skate all the way up. Because of the shape of a skate, the foot will only sit back in the boot properly when the skate is laced to the top of the boot. If you look at the profile of a skate boot, it is easy to see the "sweep" up to the top. As the skate is laced up it draws the foot back into the heel. A new pair of skates that fit will almost alway feel short when they are first put on the foot prior to lacing.

Did you know that...

for a non growing foot. When standing with your skates laced up the longest toe of your foot should slightly feather the end of the boot. When you bend your knees...as you would when you skate... the toe should pull away from the front of the boot. Any pressure points that you have on the sides of the foot or ankle bones should be adjusted (made comfortable) by the person fitting your skates.

How much Growing Room is enough?

A ½ size growing room represents about ¼ of an inch. Allowing more growing room than a ½ size puts the skater at risk of things such as blisters on the heel and arches. As well, the performance of the skate diminishes dramatically because of foot movement in the skate combined with a blade that is too long for the boot and hence too long for the skaters foot.

Make sure the foot is measured correctly!

Although it may give you a place to start... fingers... pencils... or looking down the back of the boot is just a big skate mistake waiting to happen. If the store fitting your skates understands the products they are selling and how to fit skates then they will know how to accurately use a measuring stick. To avoid the inevitable blisters, sore feet, and poor skating performance, that occur with poor fitting skates, be certain that a measureing stick is used.

In the April 1989 edition of Playboy, Jennifer Lyn Jackson said her ambition was to follow the "golden road of success."

The road proved to be long and bumpy when she returned home to Cleveland.

Jackson had several run-ins with the law, including a 2007 drunk driving arrest in Oberlin.

At one point, Jackson was arrested four times in a period of five years, and was ordered to undergo drug and alcohol treatment.

Then Friday morning, Westlake Police were called to Jackson's trailer home on Center Ridge Road after her husband found her dead in bed.

Investigators say it appears Jackson, 40, died of a heroin overdose.

Jackson's neighbor, Rodney Klubnik said, "Very sad, she was a real nice girl. I was hoping that she would get some help, she had a bad drug habit. When she was off the drugs, she was a different person."

Police are now trying to determine who supplied Jennifer Jackson with the drugs that appear to have taken her life, and are focusing on someone very close to the former playmate.

As of Friday night, toxicology test results and an official ruling on the cause of death were still pending.

Lets look at that for a minute. Imagine a woman has just given birth, and has since developed haemorrhoids, or piles. Now there is a common homeopathic remedy for piles called Hamamelis. And this may well help. But it’s unlikely to cure. So you might have to keep taking it for a long time.

There’s another common homeopathic remedy called Pulsatilla. And this helps with many ailments that develop from childbirth, including piles. Taking Pulsatilla is more likely to cure them for good.

So if you can treat the cause, expect outstanding results. A permanent cure is the aim.

One of the things I love about treating animals is their desire to help in the choosing of the right remedy. Most dogs are pretty outgoing and will make it very clear when you’ve selected the right remedy - they’ll lick the bottle, their lips or your hand, they’ll sit expectantly and wag their tail, they’ll look interested and attentive.

If, on the other hand, you selected the wrong remedy, they’ll turn their head away, walk off, perhaps even snarl at you if you persist.

To me, their body language is very clear. You really don’t need to be an animal communicator.

Haiti Earthquake 7,0 SR

A huge quake measuring 7.0 has rocked the impoverished Caribbean nation of Haiti toppling buildings and causing widespread damage and panic.

A tsunami alert was immediately issued for the Caribbean region after the earthquake struck at 2153 GMT on Tuesday (0853 AEDT on Wednesday).

An AFP correspondent said the ground shook for more than a minute.

Just minutes later two aftershocks measuring both 5.9 and 5.5 on the moment magnitude scale hit, US officials said.

"I think it's really a catastrophe of major proportions," the country's ambassador to the United States, Raymond Alcide Joseph, told CNN television.

The US Geological Survey said the powerful quake was initially measured at 7.3 on the scale and struck 16 kilometres from the capital Port-Au-Prince, and 27 kilometres from Petionville.

Haiti's presidential palace and numerous other government buildings in the country's capital Port-au-Prince collapsed , Haitian television, streaming online, reports.

A journalist with Haitian television station Haitipal, interviewed by telephone from Port-au-Prince, told the station that public buildings across the capital had been destroyed.

"The presidential palace, the finance ministry, the ministry of public works, the ministry of communication and culture [were all affected by the quake]," the reporter said, adding that the Parliament building and a cathedral in the capital were also crumbling.

Buried under rubble

Residents were buried under the rubble, a Reuters reporter in the city said.

He said he saw dozens of dead and injured people in the rubble, which blocked streets in the city.

The epicentre of the quake was located inland, only 16 kilometres from Port-au-Prince and was very shallow at a depth of only 10 kilometres.

It prompted a tsunami watch for parts the Caribbean, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre said.

"Everything started shaking, people were screaming, houses started collapsing ... it's total chaos," Reuters reporter Joseph Guyler Delva said.

"I saw people under the rubble and people killed," he added.

A local employee for the US charity Food for the Poor reported seeing a five-storey building collapse in Port-au-Prince, a spokeswoman for the group, Kathy Skipper, said.

Another Food for the Poor employee said there were more houses destroyed than standing in Delmas Road, a major thoroughfare in the city.

Panic-stricken residents filled the streets desperately trying to dig people from rubble or seeking missing relatives as darkness fell shortly after the quake.

"People were screaming 'Jesus, Jesus' and running in all directions," Delva said.

American Luke Renner, who was staying in Cap-Hatien about 160 kilometres north of Port-au-Prince, described the moment the quake hit.

'House balancing on a beach ball'

"It felt like our whole house was balancing on a beach ball," Mr Renner told CNN.

‘‘We heard the whole community screaming and in an uproar during that whole 20- to 30-second window.’’

It was difficult to assess the damage because of nightfall, he said.

‘‘With the sun setting it may be difficult to tell. In the morning we’ll know for sure."

Troy Livesay, who lives in in Haiti and works with Heartline Ministries, also described his reactions on Twitter.

‘‘Just experienced a MAJOR earthquake here in Port au Prince - walls were falling down - we are ALL fine - pray for those in the slums,’’ he wrote.

‘‘Most people are staying outside in our area - aftershocks are still continuing ... a neighbor was in a school that collapsed.’’

A spokesman for Australian NGO Plan Australia said it received an email from its office in Haiti earlier this morning soon after the earthquake hit.

The message was brief, describing that an earthquake had hit but that the full extent of damage was unknown. The office was staffed mostly by Haitians, he said.

The tsunami centre said the watch was in effect for Haiti, the neighbouring Dominican Republic - with which it shares the island of Hispaniola - Cuba and the Bahamas.

"A destructive widespread tsunami threat does not exist based on historical earthquake and tsunami data," the centre said.

"However, there is the possibility of a local tsunami that could affect coasts located usually no more than 100 kilometres from the earthquake epicentre."

US President BArack Obama said: "My thoughts and prayers go out to those who have been affected by this earthquake. We are closely monitoring the situation and we stand ready to assist the people of Haiti."
